Kimkins is an extreme diet that is dangerously low in calories. After paying for access to the site, members are encouraged to eat as little as 500 calories per day. Heidi Diaz, the creator of the Kimkins diet plan, has no training in medicine or nutrition, but continues to aggressively promote her program as safe and effective.
Extremely low calorie diets like Kimkins deprive the body of important nutrients and essential fats, causing the body to enter "starvation mode", where the metabolism nearly slows to a complete stop. As a survival instinct, your body stores every last calorie you consume as fat, to keep you from starving to death. Kimkins followers have reported side effects such as hair loss, fainting, and heart palpitations.
The founder of the Kimkins diet has admitted to making her story up, and using a fake photo to represent her "after" picture. Watch the news reports included below for more details on the extent of the scam.
